The arbitral award and costs
What is an appropriate length
of time for rendering an award?
For three-member tribunals, over three-quarters
of respondents (78%) believe that the award
should be rendered either within 3 months
(37%) or in 3 to 6 months (41%). Interestingly,
when the three-member tribunal results are
broken down by respondent type, 47% of
arbitrators think that the appropriate time
for rendering an award is within 3 months,
whereas 45% of private practitioners and 50%
of in-house counsel think the appropriate time
is longer – 3 to 6 months.
